Dental Implants - Complete Implant Dentistry

Single, Multiple Tooth Replacement

If you’re missing any or all of your teeth, implant dentistry can vastly improve your quality of life, overall health, and self-confidence.
Dental implants closely mimic natural teeth because they feature a full artificial root design and crown, whereas traditional prosthetics replace only the crowns of missing teeth. This solid, complete structure makes implants feel, fit, and function like natural teeth. You will again be able to chew the foods you ate when you had natural, healthy teeth. Because of this unique functional benefit, dental implants are far more than a cosmetic option, and the best part? With proper care, dental implants will last for your entire life.

What are Dental Implants?

Implants are manmade replacement teeth, or prosthetic teeth. The implant itself is composed of a titanium post surgically implanted into the jawbone, into a socket left empty by a missing tooth.

Only dental implants are independently anchored in the jawbone, offering unsurpassed stability, unlike other prosthetics, which rely on natural suction or neighbouring teeth for support. When an appropriate treatment, implants are the ultimate tooth substitute, and you couldn’t be in better hands than with Dr. Murray-Curtis.

What Makes Dr. Murray-Curtis a Good Choice for My Implant Dentist?

Dr. Murray-Curtis has many academic accolades in implant dentistry, and he has placed and restored more than 1000 dental implants. Patients and fellow Dentists travel from near and far, from within the UK and abroad, seeking out Dr. Murray-Curtis’ expertise and experience in implant placement.

Silk Dental Care offers single-tooth replacement, as well as implant-sustained prostheses (bridges, partials, full dentures). In addition to implant placement surgery, Dr. Murray-Curtis performs pre-procedure bone grafting and sinus lifts, when necessary.
Dr. Murray-Curtis, unlike many other Dentists uncovered by a national Watchdog report, will only offer treatments that are necessary and absolutely beneficial to your health and well being.

Your best interests, and ultimately your health, are our highest priority at Silk Dental Care.
Our philosophy revolves strongly around the promise to truly care for you and your family.

The Dental Implant Procedure

What Happens Prior to Implant Surgery?

Dr. Murray-Curtis and our team will examine your mouth thoroughly and take digital X-rays. The dentist may refer you to a trusted, local lab for a CT scan so that he can have a 3D image of the oral structures that will be involved in your implant surgery. Imaging helps Dr. Murray-Curtis determine the optimal position in the jaw for implants. In some cases, jawbone tissue deteriorates and becomes soft, this is common around sockets where teeth have been missing for some time. Poor bone density must be addressed with bone grafting prior to receiving treatment. All necessary treatments will be performed in the Silk Dental Care clinic wherever possible. If there is a procedure that Dr. Murray-Curtis believes would be better performed in the hands of another specialist then we will to refer you to one of our delicately selected partners, each of whom provide the same optimum level of care as you would find in our clinic.

What Happens During Implant Surgery?

Prior to the procedure, Dr. Murray-Curtis will administer sedation to make you comfortable and reduce any nerves or anxiety. He will then surgically place one or more small, biocompatible implant posts, (depending on whether you require one or multiple implants). After your surgery, healing should take three to six months. During recovery, your jawbone will fuse to the implanted post(s) in a process called osseointegration. Once the bond is fully secure, you will undergo dental implant restoration, which involves attaching your crown(s), bridge, or denture.

How Long Do Implants Last?

The longevity of dental implants depends on many factors, but Implants can certainly last a lifetime if oral health remains good. The restoration on an implant post may wear down and require replacement after many years of use. Prosthetics attached to implant posts can be replaced easily, and surgery is not necessary if the implant posts remain strong.

Studies have shown that these posts have a long-term success rate of 93 to 98 percent, and the prosthetic teeth have 10 to 15 year lifespans.

Will I Make a Good Candidate?

If you are missing one, two, several, or all of your teeth, you may make a wonderful candidate for dental implants. When dentures, partials, or bridges cannot deliver a stable, comfortable, functional replacement for missing teeth, dental implants may be the perfect solution.

However, if your jawbone is not healthy enough for implants, Dr. Murray-Curtis may recommend bone grafting, which will improve your jawbone density so that it can support implants.
Regardless of your current state of dental health, if you’re missing teeth, Dr. Murray-Curtis will help you determine which type of prosthetic will best suit your long-term oral health; with your best interests at heart.
